Secretarial Services and Accountability
Whenever secretarial services are provided from a location at home, accountability is of the utmost importance. The provider must perform at a marketable price in a reasonable amount of time or they may end up working for pennies per hour. When secretarial services are contracted out to a virtual secretary, any answering service duties should be included in the price.
Contracted secretarial services are cost effective for the company because there is an obligation that the work will be done before a specified date at the agreed price. The time involved is solely the discretion of the virtual secretary within the bounds of the deadline. This means anyone doing such secretarial services needs to manage their own time extremely well.
Sometimes a company compensates the contracted worker by paying by the hour. If the company is willing to pay 30 dollars an hour for the secretarial services, the provider needs to demonstrate that they are worth it. They are essentially in business for themselves and should not want to risk losing future contracts from the company. Repeat clients are a big part of the business that will continue as long as both parties feel it is justified.
One way to do this is to keep track of the time spent on any task through the proper use of timesheets. It does not matter whether the buyer actually pays by the hour. Timesheets will inform the provider how long it actually takes to perform the task and can adjust pricing accordingly. Remember to include time spent as part of an answering service.
