Hiring a Virtual Office

Hiring a virtual office is an exciting proposition. Virtual assistants do this from their home often. However, with any home located business there are some legal issues and possible ramifications that need to be addressed.

The first question has to do with space allowed and the location. A phone answering service, for example, might require quite a bit of space for other equipment as well as the office itself. Employees may need to be hired. Is the home in an area that has been zoned for business? And if you have secure information, are they set up for privacy? You are ultimately accountable.

If not, you could get into some legal trouble by using such a virtual office inside someone’s home. While virtual assistants working out of the home are not likely to have this problem, they could if they get a lot of home deliveries that are obviously above and beyond the norm. It’s something that should be considered well in advance.

The space used must be legal. A phone answering service with sprawling equipment everywhere and employees coming and going throughout the day may not qualify. Again, the zoning laws maybe a problem if the space is not legal. If you are looking to hire a virtual office, a large firm may be the way to go if you fear legal issues.

Having virtual assistants to handle your phones and provide answering services from a virtual office is a great idea - just don’t hand your business off to an amateur.
